Painting and Teaching Art Makes me Smile!
Katherine S. McDermott, owner of, Katherine’s Art TV, Please Login or Register to see the link. and Please Login or Register to see the link., is a renouned artist herself. She makes her home in the Moreno Valley of Northern New Mexico.
Although she first sold her work regularly when she was only 16 (charcoal and pen/ink drawings), it was after moving to the area in 1994 that she began pursuing her art on a fulltime basis. She painted her first watercolor in 1996 and has been accepted into a number of juried shows – including the well known “Masterworks of New Mexico”. Katherine has shown in ArtsFest for the past 11 years, winning second place in the Fine Arts category for her Poppy Power in 2000. Her work has also been featured on the cover of Enchantment Magazine , Your Host New Mexico Magazine and the 2007 Parade of Homes, Sangre de Cristo Homebuilders Association Magazine. She received an Achievement Award from the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women in 2004 and has served as Judge for the Eagle Nest High Country Arts and Crafts Show in 2004 and 2006.

Known for her dramatic use of color, Katherine’s work is diverse, ranging from architectural compositions to pet portraits, still life, landscape, floral, and pet portraits.
She has studied under Leslie Capshaw, Cathy Lubke and Janet Walsh, as well completing courses from the North Light Art School. She is also a contributor of work to the annual Music from Angel Fire Art Auction as well as other private benefit events.
In addition to keeping busy in her gallery, Katherine offers private one-on-one instruction and online video and DVD workshops. She stays active in the community, serving in executive office on the boards of the Moreno Valley Arts Council, the Angel Fire Mountain Theatre, and the Northeastern New Mexico Arts Alliance.
Katherine takes particular joy in teaching others to draw and paint. “I just believe, fundamentally, that everyone has that creative spark…it just needs to be unlocked!”
